Mission

The University of Oregon is dedicated to the principles of equal opportunity in education and an acceptance of diversity as an affirmation of individual identity within a welcoming community.  Disability is recognized as an aspect of diversity integral to the university and to society.*

Disability Services collaborates with students, faculty, staff and the community to create an educational environment that is useable, equitable, sustainable, and inclusive for all members of the university community.

Approach

Disability Services at the University of Oregon is working to create physical, curricular and informational environments that are informed by and responsive to the diverse characteristics and experiences of students with disabilities and variations of ability. We promote Universal Design as a viable and necessary approach to making the university useable, equitable, sustainable and inclusive for all students.

In this time of transition, we continue to provide direct support and services to students who encounter barriers to access or participation in university classes, programs and offerings. We are also here to assist students, instructors, staff and community members through consultation, outreach, programming and referral.

This website is designed to clarify questions and issues that students often have about DS. It does not describe every type of support or assistance that might be needed. Please do not hesitate to ask for clarification and to make appointments with DS staff as needed throughout your time at the University.
