Internships & Openings
The purpose of ESA is to promote cultural, social, political, and economical awareness among the general student body, community and the international student body; to provide a chance for students and citizens to acquire a great deal of knowledge about other cultures through contact with foreign students.
The European Student Association of the University of Oregon.
- aims to create an organization that can be used as a network between students on campus, who are actively interested in European culture, and the local community;
- seeks to develop a bond between different cultures. By participating in events with other student organizations it creates a diverse, yet compatible, community;
- strives to make the European students on campus more visible. Incorporating new activities into the ESA schedule each year encourages more students to get involved.
History
The European Student Association (ESA) started in the Fall of 1997 but was only re-established during Winter 2000. Initially, it was set up to give European students a chance to meet and make new friends while studying away from home. It has developed into much more now - it encourages people to learn about European culture.
While the ESA is still developing as an organization, this is a great time to be involved. With new ideas being implemented daily, the students actively participating in its growth can feel pride in their accomplishments. We are constantly looking for ways to get more involved with other students on campus and people in the local community.
The ESA works closely with the International Student Association (ISA) which, among other things, provides a support network for all international students on campus. The ESA enjoys participating in ISA events. During Spring term, for example, International Week dedicates a whole day to Europe.
Membership
If you are interested in European culture then why not join the ESA? You will not only meet students from European countries, but other students interested in Europe. You don't have to be European to join the ESA.
As a member you will have the responsibility to become as active, or as non-active, as you would like. You will discover that the members are the true leaders of this organization. It is through the members' initiatives that this organization will continue to grow. It is through the members' participation that our goals will be reached.
The ESA holds several activities each term where the atmosphere is always welcoming. Why don't you discover these aspects of our organization for yourself?
