Internships & Openings
The Sexual Wellness Advocacy Team is a group of students committed to ending sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. We use interactive facilitation styles including theater to create change the UO.
Do you have a desire to work with a committed group of other students using theater as a tool for social change on campus? Do you have passion, energy, excitement and a desire to educate others about healthy relationships? Join SWAT!
SWAT is a sex-positive program meaning we do not advocate for one type of commitment or sexual behavior over another. We also recognize that some students may choose abstinence. We advocate for mutual, informed, clear consent in all sexual relationships. No prior experience with facilitation or sexual violence prevention is required, though participants must be willing to learn.
What are previous interns saying?
“(Through SWAT) I have started to see sexual assault in terms of its social context rather than just the statistics and facts, and I am becoming more aware of the cultural conditions that have encouraged the continuation...of this horrific crime.”
“By doing this kind of work, I’ve been impacted for the better. I say this because now am a more educated person who is able to speak more efficiently with others regarding an issue as serious as sexual assault. . . All in all, the challenges, triumphs, and learning experience have made SWAT an exciting, educational, and mind-opening experience.”
“Being in SWAT has allowed me to find the courage to speak my mind”
“SWAT is by far my favorite class that I have taken at the University of Oregon… Class is always so interesting to me that I don’t even realize when my hand is up. My brain is always churning and I’m relating in so many different ways to the material that is brought up".
"I learned a lot about these issues, I met some amazing people and I have found a greater sense of self and personal satisfaction. I also like that I can say I'm out there trying to make a difference."
"I believe that the first semester of SWAT helped to provide a baseline understanding of the program and our individual goals as peer educators. However, sexual assault prevention is an ongoing journey, both for ourselves and as a group."
"I am so happy about being in SWAT. I feel the knowledge I have gained about myself and others is very useful and profound. SWAT has built my confidence."
